The young Moroccan actor, Said Dahmani, was able to grab attention after participating in the social drama series “Between Palaces,” which achieved great success and enabled him to highlight his talent and brilliance in the sky of Moroccan drama.
In the following chat with the electronic newspaper Hespress, Saeed Al-Dahmani talks about the details of the experience of participating in “Between Palaces”, embodying the character of “Al-Ghandour” and other topics.
Tell us about your artistic beginnings in the world of acting.
My beginnings started in the school theatre, after that I studied under the late Abbas Ibrahim, then I trained for two years at the Model Center for Theatrical Training, to launch my career in the world of art.
The first work I presented in my track was entitled “An Extraordinary Night” with director Idris Al-Marini, and after that, the works in which I participated continued.
What addition did the series “Between Palaces” give to your artistic career?
“Between Palaces” is a series that has reached most people and all segments. Since it is a group work, the actors participating in it also had a share of exposure among the audience, which we discovered more.
Although I had presented a group of works previously, the series “Between Palaces” was a strength for me and had a very high viewership rate.
How did you work on the role of “The Dandy” during your youth?
The character “Al-Ghandour” was difficult, and the problem with it was that I embodied the character of the actor Muhammad Khayi in his youth, so it was necessary to combine the character’s future and present with its backgrounds and psychological loads, taking into account that he is embodied by a strong person who has personal studies, so I combine the transition in time and place.
How were you chosen to participate in the series and play the role?
I was chosen for the character of Al-Ghandour after the casting director, Yassin Mamoun, saw me and suggested me to the director, Hisham Al-Jabbari, who I thanked for the opportunity he gave me. When we sat down, he explained to me that the character was important to him in the story, even though I was going to play the “flashback” role, but he had a starring role in the series, so I was convinced. With the matter, thank God I did everything in my power and fought to be correct and professional in acting.
What helped me the most was that I used to attend the scenes of filming and watch the actors, in addition to the fact that the script was strong and helps you, as it focuses on a group of details, and its dialogues are not absurd, and this is the strength of the entire series, in which the screenwriter Bushra Malak created, and I hope to work with her again.
How did you receive the audience’s reactions to the role of “The Dandy,” which mixed violence and evil?
The audience’s reactions to the evil, authoritarian, and arrogant “Ghandour” character were frankly mixed. There were those who understood that it was just an act, and there were those who were convinced of the role and prayed for me, and there were those who sympathized with the character, explaining that as creating psychological problems.
But thank God, in general, my friends and colleagues in the field, including directors and actors, praised me, to whom I also extend my sincere thanks because the encouragement came from them.
What do you think of the success achieved by the work during its presentation during the Ramadan season?
The success achieved by the series did not come in vain because the script was well-crafted and the director knew how to lead the train of action with the availability of actors of the same level who carry the weight of what they offer, and the teamwork that always takes place with love gives a wonderful and beautiful result in the end.
What roles do you aspire to play in the future?
As for me, I like to play all the roles that suit my age and that directors see me in and think that I can do, because I will play them honestly without cheating and I will be fine in them, even though I tend to play roles that have a character of psychological complexes linked to the past that affect the person, in addition to historical roles, in particular. We have a diversity and richness of historical symbols in Morocco, so I aspire to embody a role of this kind.
What are your new artistic projects?
My latest artistic work now is a film titled “Silent Moaning,” directed by Maryam Jabbour. It is currently participating in a number of national and international festivals, in which I share the lead with the distinguished actor Mohamed Khayi.
last word ..
Thank you to the Moroccan audience for your support, and thank you to Hespress for keeping up.
