The Russian Prosecutor’s Office requested that Alla Pugacheva be declared a “foreign agent” – 2024-03-31 19:20:13

The Russian prosecutor’s office today asked the Ministry of Justice to declare Alla Pugacheva a “foreign agent”, Reuters reported, referring to RIA Novosti.

Earlier in Russia, media information appeared that the authorities were preparing such a move against the icon of Soviet pop music, who declared against the war against Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this morning that he had no official information on the matter.

“No, I haven’t heard anything about it. And I haven’t heard any official statements about it,” he told reporters.

The head of the Federal Safety and Anti-Corruption Project, Vitaly Borodin, previously wrote on his Telegram channel that he had received an answer on this matter from the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation. According to him, the prosecution wants the Ministry of Justice to recognize Pugacheva as a foreign agent.

“I hope that the regulatory authorities will bring this matter to an end,” Borodin wrote on his Telegram channel. Before that, he had already contacted various authorities with requests to check Russian artists for administrative and criminal violations.

Seventy-four-year-old Pugacheva, a Soviet and then post-Soviet icon, is one of the most famous figures in Russia – known to generations of Russians for her hits, including the 1982 song “A Million Red Roses” as well as the 1978 film The Woman Who Sings.

In the past, Pugacheva was honored by both presidents Vladimir Putin and his predecessor Boris Yeltsin. When Mikhail Gorbachev died in 2022, she praised the last Soviet leader for allowing freedom in the country and rejecting violence.

Already in September 2022, Alla Pugacheva condemned the conflict in Ukraine – at a time when the Kremlin suppresses all criticism.

On her Instagram account, where she has nearly 3.5 million followers, the 73-year-old singer reacted to the inclusion of her husband – actor and TV presenter Maxim Galkin – on the list of foreign agents in Russia.

The reason for this was “carrying out political activity”, and the foreign source against his name was Ukraine.

“Please count me among the foreign agents of my beloved country,” Pugacheva wrote in the address published on Instagram. The social network is banned in Russia, it belongs to the Meta corporation, designated as “extremist” by the Russian Federation.

The famous singer emphasizes that she is in solidarity with her husband, whom she defines as “an honest, decent and sincere person, a true and incorruptible Russian patriot who wishes his country prosperity, a peaceful life, freedom of speech and an end to the death of our boys in the name of of illusory goals that turn our country into an outsider and complicate the lives of our citizens”.

Previously, Maxim Galkin transferred his royalties from a series of concerts in Israel to help Ukrainian refugees. After the start of the war in Ukraine, Alla Pugacheva left Russia with her husband and children and moved to Israel. Then he returned to Russia several times in the last two years.
