The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Jan Lipavsky, summoned the Russian ambassador to the republic, Alexander Zmeevsky, in connection with the death of Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny. This was reported by ČTK news agency.

“The Czech Republic has called for an investigation into the circumstances of his death and to clarify why the body was not given to the family of the deceased,” MFA press secretary Daniel Drake told ČTK.

Russian Ambassador to Denmark Vladimir Barbin, in his turn, said that he was summoned to the Kingdom’s Foreign Ministry in connection with the death of Alexei Navalny. According to TASS, the ambassador said that until the end of the Russian side’s investigation, such steps can be seen as “an attempt to use Navalny’s death for political purposes”.

Russian diplomats were summoned by the foreign ministries of Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Finland, France, Sweden and Estonia in connection with Navalny’s death. On February 19, the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, announced that Russia “must allow” an “international and transparent” investigation into Navalny’s death.
