Romania will join the Schengen area with land borders by the end of the year, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said in an interview with local TV station Antena 3.

The media noted that the Prime Minister’s statement was made on the same day that Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner avoided indicating a time horizon for lifting the veto on Romania and Bulgaria joining Schengen and overland.

“Romania will enter the Schengen area by air and sea in a month. Naturally, even more attention will be needed, there will be greater challenges while we are at the beginning. I guarantee you that by the end of this year, Romania will enter in Schengen by land”Marcel Cholaku said on Antena 3 TV.

The subject of Schengen will certainly be present during the Congress of the European People’s Party, which will be held on Wednesday and Thursday (March 6 and 7) in Bucharest, local media commented.

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer will be among the participants, who will talk with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on the sidelines of the meeting, reports Digi24, quoted by BTA.
