In Armenia, it is often possible to hear, especially in the last three or four years, that the people made a mistake in 2018. Various political groups, parties, and their individual representatives talk about this. Moreover, they talk about it with undisguised “repentance”, in the sense that the people made a mistake, the consequence of the mistake was severe, but nothing, they forgive the people. This is a manifestation of the cynicism of the so-called Armenian political system.
What’s more, this escalation is mainly the representatives of the system, or so to speak, the “new generation” of those representatives, whose rule was also the result of the fact that the imperative of the revolution had matured in the country. And the people did not make a mistake, the people went after the revolutionary movement, or the change movement, whatever you want to call what happened in 2018, because what happened before that was very correctly and clearly assessed. With their move in 2018, the people appreciated not what “comes” in 2018, but what they left in 2018.
And the fact that the situation in Armenia has reached that point is essentially the responsibility of all the elites and their various circles that have governed up to that point, and significantly also in the field of crime. Because that system missed a few moments to qualitatively change Armenia, always looking at public grievances, public complaints, social, socio-psychological condition from the height of the government, with indifference or cynicism and arrogance.
It is this attitude that has matured an unspeakably great and in some sense blind discontent in Armenia, which has made it a priority for the public to get rid of that system by any means possible, without particularly delving into the issues related to the formation of a new system. The society supported the change, the further course of which would largely depend on the socio-political elites.
Naturally, first and foremost, from the group that came to power, which has completely failed its share of responsibility. At the same time, also from other social and political actors who practically failed in their own work. Therefore, the political and public elites will do the right thing to start talking about their own mistakes with the people, instead of talking to each other about the “mistakes” of the people. In that case, there may be a real opportunity to draw correct conclusions for the further development of the situation.
