During the pro-Palestinian demonstrations in US colleges and universities since April 18, the number of arrests exceeded 2,000. This is reported by CNN.

In the case of some of the student demonstrations, tents were set up on the territory of the universities.

On May 2, more than 200 people were arrested for dispersing the demonstration at the University of California, Los Angeles, for disobeying the orders of the law enforcement officers. The tents located on the campus have been removed.

At least 30 people were arrested at Portland State University, where law enforcement removed protesters who occupied the library since April 29.

The University of Pennsylvania has asked for more police resources as the protests have gained momentum.

According to BBC estimates, the demonstrations have spread to nearly 140 colleges and universities in 45 US states. Demonstrators are demanding that educational institutions sever their financial ties to Israel or companies that are involved in Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip.

US President Joe Biden addressed the protests directly for the first time, calling on the protesters to maintain order. He also stated that Washington’s support for Israel remains unchanged.

In recent days, the students of the universities of Australia, Switzerland, France, Italy, Britain, Canada, Egypt, Kuwait, and Lebanon organized demonstrations against the ongoing war in Gaza.
