Mazhilis deputies in the first reading approved the draft law on combating illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, Liter.kz reports.

State Counselor Erlan Karin noted in his Telegram channel that this is another bill as part of the implementation of the initiatives of the National Kurultai.

Let me remind you that in his Atyrau speech, the head of state proposed to maximize responsibility for the production of narcotic substances, equating it to the most serious crimes,” Karin emphasized.

He added that the bill increases criminal liability for organizing the production and sale of drugs, up to life imprisonment. Criminal liability is also being introduced for the illicit trafficking of synthetic drug components, which will make it possible to more effectively identify and suppress the activities of clandestine drug laboratories.

I would like to note that last year the government adopted a Comprehensive Plan to Combat Drug Addiction and the Drug Business, aimed primarily at preventing drug addiction and reducing the number of drug addicts in the country,” the state adviser concluded.
