All thermal power plants will eventually have to be replaced by production units running on renewable energies, according to the CEO of Jirama. This was presented yesterday to the Board of Directors by Minister Olivier Jean-Baptiste.

Renewable energies constitute an essential solution to solve the problems of Jirama. These words have been announced numerous times by the former directors of the state corporation. Each of them also brought hope, but to this day, Jirama is still in a bad situation, with an inability to produce enough water and electricity to meet the needs of users. Yesterday, a new era was announced again, with the introduction of new general manager, Ron Weiss. With him, a wind of optimism is blowing over the Malagasy state company which has been struggling with financial and operational difficulties for several years. The Minister of Energy and Hydrocarbons, Olivier Jean-Baptiste, presented Ron Weiss as the cornerstone of a long-awaited reform. A reform which not only restores the financial viability of Jirama, but which also aims to transform Madagascar’s energy landscape. Despite previous attempts, none of the previous general managers managed to reverse the trend. Electricity and water production remained insufficient, leaving users waiting and the company in a precarious financial situation. But today, with Ron Weiss at the helm, the parent ministry sees a new glimmer of hope.

Transition. Weiss’ plan is ambitious but pragmatic: focusing on renewable energy. For him and his team, universal access to electricity for all Malagasy people is the absolute priority. This means a major shift towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy sources. During the ceremony, Minister Jean-Baptiste discussed ongoing and planned projects, including the development of major hydroelectric power plants such as Volobe Amont and Sahofika, as well as the installation of solar power plants across the country. . These initiatives mark a turning point in the country’s energy policy and promise a brighter future for all Malagasy people. Certainly, Ron Weiss brings with him impressive international experience, having led energy companies in Israel and Rwanda. His speech during the presentation was full of determination and pragmatism. He stressed the importance of collaboration, particularly with Jirama employees who hold valuable expertise in the field of electricity in Madagascar. Three priorities were stated by Weiss: customer satisfaction, the financial recovery of the company and the transition to renewable energies. These goals, although difficult, are considered achievable with the right strategy and commitment from all stakeholders.
