The Pistons beat the nine-man Toronto Raptors 129-127 (25-24, 27-20, 38-42, 39-41), setting a league record for consecutive losses in a season with 28 games. The Philadelphia “76ers” also lost the same number of games in a row in two seasons, losing that streak at the end of the 2014/2015 season and the beginning of the following season.
The 1989, 1990 and 2004 NBA champion “Pistons” had not won since October 28th.
Cade Cunningham’s 30 points and 12 assists and Jalen Darren’s 18 points and 17 rebounds helped the home team.
Pascal Siakam was the leading scorer with 35 points, World Cup winner Dennis Schroeder had 30 points and nine assists, Gary Trent scored 24 points and Scotty Barnes had 22 points and nine rebounds.
Pistons coach Monty Williams said after the game that the scenes in the locker room after the win were special: “The guys were screaming, I almost cried. I’m just happy for our guys.”
Williams, the 2022 NBA Coach of the Year, said he hopes this win is a turning point for his team.
The Indiana Pacers beat the New York Knicks 140:126 (32:27, 32:35, 41:30, 35:34) at home.
Tyrese Haliburton scored 22 points and tied a club record with 23 assists in the win. Additionally, the basketball player joined Irvin “Magic” Johnson and John Stockton in becoming just the third person in NBA history to score at least 20 points and collect at least 20 assists in two consecutive games. Johnson managed to do so on 18 and 19 December 1984 and Stockton on 1 and 3 March 1990.
“I didn’t know the team record was 23. Otherwise I would have tried to put 24,” Halliburton said, laughing.
He repeated the team record set by Jamal Tinsley on November 22, 2001 against the Washington “Wizards”.
He has dished out 43 assists and just two turnovers in his last two games, bringing his assists per game average to 12.8 this season.
Miles Turner collected 28 points and eight rebounds for the winners, while Aaron Nesmith scored 25 points. Donte Devincenzo scored 38 points for the visitors, while Jalen Branson and Julius Randle, also with 12 rebounds, scored 28 points each.
The Golden State “Warriors” lost at home to the Dallas “Mavericks” with 122:132 (26:34, 28:29, 35:38, 33:31).
Doncic returned to the Mavericks after missing Thursday’s game at Minnesota with 39 points, 25 of which came in the second half.
He also had ten assists and eight rebounds, but it was the Warriors’ third straight loss.
In another game, the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Los Angeles Lakers at home 108:106 (29:31, 32:26, 21:20, 26:29), for which LeBron James scored 26 points in the on his 39th birthday.
The most productive member of the “Lakers” team was Anthony Davis with 33 points, 17 rebounds and eight assists, while the rest of the teammates did not score more than nine points.
Anthony Edwards scored 31 points for the hosts.
