A man, whose age was not specified, was arrested after stealing a Minas Gerais Military Police (PMMG) vehicle, in Leopoldina, in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais, on Wednesday afternoon (1/10). He was found in the city of Recreio, 30 kilometers from where the crime occurred, while he was trying to refuel his vehicle.

From initial information it appears that the car was being washed at a station. At one point, the suspect approached the gas station and identified himself as a police officer. Believing the man, the plant employee handed over the car keys. Returning to the scene, the military noticed the vehicle missing and called the company.

The avenues near the station were blocked and the search for the car and the suspect was assisted by the police helicopter. Three hours after the theft, the man was seen in the city of Recreio, also in Zona da Mata, while trying to refuel his car.

During the arrest, the military discovered that the suspect suffered from mental disorders and had stolen the vehicle during an epidemic. The incident has not yet been closed.
