The drawing ceremony of the European Judo Cup among juniors was held in Goygol.
Publika.az reports that the sports director of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation Kamran Talibov, the sports commissioner of the European Judo Union (ACB) Albert Gmeiner and the judge-commissioner of the ACB Nano Carvalho took part in the draw.
K. Talibov noted that Azerbaijan has rich traditions in judo, that the European Cup has been held in Goygol for the second year: “We are glad that the competition has been included in the European calendar and that young athletes can improve their skills in such a tournament.”
A. Gmayner appreciated the organization of the tournament and noted that Azerbaijan is always famous for hosting big competitions. He also noted that leading judokas come to the “Grand Slam” competitions held in Baku every year.
N. Carvalho noted that Azerbaijani judokas have always been distinguished by their high skills. He said that he is sure that the judokas will have an interesting fight. “I expect tough fights on the tatami. I wish success to all participants.”
It should be noted that 323 judokas from 14 countries will participate in the tournament. 209 athletes will compete among boys and 114 among girls. Athletes from France, Serbia, Georgia, Slovenia, Greece, Italy, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, as well as individual neutral athletes will participate in the European Cup.
There are 140 judokas (95 boys and 45 girls) in the Azerbaijan national team. Last year, our judokas won 7 gold, 5 silver and 9 bronze medals and took the first place in the team score.
