With the economic development of the country, it is necessary to ensure the transportation, storage and quality of goods and to ensure modern and quality logistics system to deliver it to the consumers in a short time and at an affordable price. Apart from this, the development of logistics sector is very important in facilitating import-export to survive in the competitive global market.

The entrepreneurs said these things at the FBCCI Standing Committee on Logistics, Courier Service and Freight Forwarding meeting on Saturday (March 2).

Participating in the meeting virtually, FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam said that the efficient logistics sector of the country must be developed in keeping with the import-export trade. Or we will fall behind in global competition. In the light of industrial policy, 21 sub-sectors should be given equal importance.

In a discussion on the draft of the National Logistics Development Policy 2024, he said that air, road and rail communication should be increased in addition to sea communication for the development of efficient logistics service sector in the future. He wants to obtain and renew all types of licenses from one place to reduce business costs and ease of doing business. He also emphasized on automation.

The senior vice president of FBCCI said that the government is working for the development of the logistics sector in accordance with the appropriate laws and regulations and conducting business with transparency. Amin Helali.

Syed Mohammad Bakhtiar, director in charge of the committee, said that the faster the supply chain of the product and the faster the product reaches the consumer, the lower the cost of the business. The price of the product also decreased. If we want to build a developed country in 2041, we need to reduce the time and cost of transporting goods.

He also said that in recent years, the basic infrastructure capacity of the logistics sector is being achieved as a result of the expansion of road and rail connectivity, development of land, sea, sea and airports and economic zones. However, according to the projection of Bangladesh Vision 2041, compared to 2021, various indicators such as passenger traffic will increase 29 times, freight traffic 10 times, port container traffic 13 times, seagoing cargo traffic will increase 22 times in 2041. So everyone should be ready now for the development of logistics sector.

Standing committee chairman and Courier Services Association of Bangladesh president Hafizur Rahman Pulak presided over the meeting. He said that if hubs are created in several places in the country including Keraniganj, Mirpur of Dhaka, the vehicles of the logistics sector can be kept under their own management and it will help in the transportation of goods in less time.

Entrepreneurs participating in the open discussion said that the logistics sector is an integral part of the supply chain. This sector is making a great contribution to the economy by starting from the production of products to the consumer. But compared to competing countries, Bangladesh is still far behind in this sector. Everyone should pay special attention in this sector.

At this time, the businessmen want facilities such as obtaining land at the rate fixed by the government, training of transport drivers in the logistics sector, ease of licensing, cross-border e-commerce etc. for the construction of the hub.

Apart from this, they want the proper implementation of the 21 sub-sectors of the logistics sector mentioned in the Industrial Policy 2022, such as road transport and communication services, aviation services, seaport services, information and technical logistics services, financial logistics services, e-commerce logistics services, etc.
