Police found the body of the MMA fighter and teacher Monday night Diego Braga Alves, 44 years old. He had been missing since the early hours of this Monday (15th), when he went to the Hill bankcommunity of the West Zone of Rio, try recover your stolen motorcycle in another community in the region, Muzema.

Once the body is found, Homicide takes over the case. The main hypothesis is that he was mistaken for a militiaman by drug traffickers while he was trying to recover the motorbike.

Men from the BOPE and the 31st PM battalion participated in the searches. The body was found in Morro do Banco.

According to his son, fighter Gabriel Braga, his father spent the entire morning trying to find the motorbike, which had been taken from inside the apartment building, and went alone to the community controlled by drug trafficking.

At the G1 he specified that friends and policemen have already done so they looked for their father’s body.

“Because it took time, the friends tried to go up, but they told everyone to go down. Just now, a friend called to try to free the body and they said they had put the body in a square. But when we arrived ​​there, the police were already there and didn’t let anyone up,” Gabriel Braga said.

Diego Braga owns the Tropa Thai gym, which trains fighters, and trains his son, who fights professionally. Classes have been canceled this Monday.

Images from a security loop show two men removing the vehicle from the garage of Diego’s building. The motorcycle would have been taken to Morro do Banco, in Itanhangá.

The fighter did not register the theft at the police station.

Diego Braga, 44, was a professional Muay Thai and MMA fighter. He began his professional MMA career in 2003 and has faced names such as Charles do Bronx, Miltinho Vieira, Adriano Martins and Iliarde Santos, all with UFC experience.

He also trained with the brothers Rodrigo Minotauro and Rogério Minotouro and with Anderson Silva. He had his last professional fight in 2019 and retired with 23 wins, eight losses and one draw.

In recent years he has dedicated himself to a career as a martial arts teacher and trainer. Last year, his son Gabriel Braga reached the final of the PFL featherweight tournament.

The community of Muzema, in Itanhangá, in the west of Rio, was dominated by militiamen until 2023. Since then, in November, drug traffickers from the Vermelho Command invaded the community and began to dominate the place. Morro do Banco, a nearby community, is also under the control of drug trafficking.

According to Civil Police investigators, it is the drug trafficker Pedro Paulo Guedes, one of the main criminals of CV, one of the leaders of the Complexo da Penha and currently wanted by the police, who takes the decisions against Muzema.

Traffickers were already setting up barricades on the streets of the favela and even selling drugs. The town borders Rio das Pedras, the birthplace of the militia.
