“What began in 2013 as a program and event idea has now become a success story and a major public event. Around 24,000 hikers have taken part in this success story so far. This year we have once again put together great routes that lead to hidden treasures and the well-known landmarks along the routes will of course not be missed and the hikers can also look forward to delicious regional specialties as well as culture and history,” says Mag.a (FH) Christina Aichner, Marketing Manager ORF Burgenland and organizer of the “big Burgenland Tour”.

“As a public company, it is important to ORF Burgenland to come into direct contact with the audience. As the past few years have shown, this works best when hiking. There is a lot of time and space for exchange with our audience. We will also intensively accompany the ‘big Burgenland tour’ in our programs,” said ORF country director Mag. Werner Herics.

ORF Burgenland presenter Michael Pimiskern is also there again and will lead the group as a hiking guide. Everyone is invited to hike along – the entire route, a daily stage or just a section. As usual, the hiking routes are designed as circular routes. Every day a regional guide who knows about the special features and sights of his region will hike with the group. The routes are between 15 and 19 kilometers long and, depending on the stage, are easy to challenging. For safety reasons, a tour bus and a Red Cross team also accompany the hikers. Refreshment stations are also available along the seven daily stages. The hikes are free, take place in all weathers and no registration is required.

Reporting on ORF

ORF Burgenland will accompany the hike and report on it in its media – radio, television, internet including social media. In “Burgenland today” there is a detailed summary every day at 7 p.m. on ORF 2/B with the most beautiful pictures of the day, a preview of the next day’s hiking route and the “Burgenland Weather” from the two ORF Burgenland weather experts Kristina Buconjic and Wolfgang Unger.
Radio Burgenland has daily live entries, reports and reports from the routes. The “big Burgenland tour” is also reported in detail on the Internet at burgenland.> and on the ORF Burgenland’s social media channels.

“The big Burgenland tour”

“The Great Burgenland Tour” is now legendary and extremely popular with fans. Getting to know Burgenland in all its facets was and is the goal of the tour. Explore the beauties of Burgenland on foot – from nature to culture, customs and cuisine.
There were 56 routes in eight years, but no tour could take place in 2020 and 2022 due to the pandemic. In 2021, seven stages were again presented in all ORF media as part of the series “The Great Burgenland Tour – Pimiskern Hikes” – but only virtually.
From 2013 to 2023, a total of around 1,100 kilometers (including 2021) were covered.

“The Great Burgenland Tour” – in collaboration with Burgenland Tourism, Raiffeisen, Burgenland Chamber of Commerce, BVZ and KESCH Agency.
