The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, officially confirmed that he has ordered to limit the provision of consular services to Ukrainians of mobilization age who are abroad.
According to the minister, staying abroad does not release the Ukrainian citizen from responsibilities towards the homeland, for which “in the conditions of full-scale Russian aggression, the main priority is protection from destruction”.
“What it looks like now: a man of mobilization age went abroad, showed his country that the question of its survival does not concern him, and then comes and wants to receive services from this country,” Kuleba wrote on the X social network.
“If these people think that someone over there, far away at the front, will fight and give his life for this country, and someone will sit abroad, but at the same time receive services from this country – that’s not how things work.” he continued.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine will soon provide updated clarifications on the new procedure for obtaining consular services for men of mobilization age. “That will be fair,” added the minister.
A day earlier, Ukrainian media published a letter from the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sibiga, which stated that as of April 23, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was suspending consular activities based on applications from male Ukrainian citizens aged 18 to 60 .
As noted, this ban will remain in place until the Ministry of Foreign Affairs receives clarification on the provisions of the mobilization law, which comes into force from May. Until then, Ukrainians subject to the ban will only be able to receive documents to return to Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the mobilization law on April 16. This law, among other things, provides that without updating military registration documents, Ukrainian servicemen will not be able to receive services at the country’s consulates abroad, including obtaining a foreign passport.
