Vienna (OTS) – On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the European Parliament’s liaison office in Austria invites you to a special film evening. In Vienna Votivkino (9th, Währinger Straße 12) we show on March 8th from 5 p.m the Film „Persona Non Grata“ about the true story of ex-ski racer Nicola Werdenigg, who for the first time exposed serious grievances about sexual violence and systematic abuse of power during her time as a skier and triggered a “me-too” wave in Austrian skiing.
Speak after the film screening Nicola Werdenigg and the Vice-President of the European Parliament and member of the Equal Opportunities Committee Evelyn Regner in one Panel discussion about the film and the lessons that can be learned from it.
Regner says: “Unfortunately, hardly any area in our society is free from abuse of power and sexual violence, especially against women. This is also a big problem in the heart of Austria, skiing. Werdenigg’s story is also a symbol of how these fates are dealt with. It takes incredible courage to speak about such a fate. And then far too often there is no one there who wants to listen or acknowledge it and the grievances are simply hushed up. This makes it all the more important to address this issue socially and this great film makes an important contribution to this. It should encourage all of us to believe those affected and to stand up for ourselves when we experience or observe it ourselves. This is the only way we can create a society with a consensus-based culture in which everyone feels safe.”
The conversation will be moderated by Noura Maan (Der Standard). Admission is free. Media representatives are cordially invited to this event.
