(CNN) — After welcoming the new year, many people will also have things to deal with, whether it’s making returns or going to the supermarket.
Many retailers, grocery stores and pharmacies will be open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Eve, although some have adjusted their hours.
This year New Year’s Eve falls on a Sunday, so some services such as banking or postal services will remain closed.
Here’s what’s open and closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Eve.
Retailers
- Target will be open on December 31st from 8am to 10pm local time. On New Year’s Day, Target stores will open a little later, at 9 a.m., and close at 10 p.m.
- Walmart will be open both days.
- JCPenney stores will open at 11 a.m. on New Year’s Eve and you should check local store hours for closing times. On New Year’s Eve, shops will be open from 11am to 6pm local time.
- Most Macy’s stores will be open from 10am to 7pm on New Year’s Eve and will operate as normal on New Year’s Day.
- TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Sierra and Homesense stores will be open from 9:30am to 6pm on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
- Kohl’s will be open from 9am to 7pm on New Year’s Eve and 10am to 9pm on New Year’s Day.
Supermarkets
- Whole Foods is open with modified hours both days, depending on location. Kroger will be open as normal.
- Aldi closes early on New Year’s Eve and will be closed on New Year’s Day.
- Trader Joe’s will close at 5pm on New Year’s Eve and will remain closed through New Year’s Day.
- Costco’s New Year’s Eve hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will be closed on New Year’s Day.
- Wegmans will close at 8pm on New Year’s Eve and reopen on New Year’s Day at 6am, except for the Astor Place and Brooklyn stores in New York City which will open at 7am.

- Safeway and Albertsons stores will be open Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
- Jewel-Osco, ACME and Shaw’s stores and pharmacies will be open on New Year’s Eve with reduced hours. On New Year’s Eve, shops will be open, but most pharmacies will remain closed.
- Vons stores and pharmacies will remain open on New Year’s Eve. On New Year’s Day they will be open with modified hours, although pharmacies will remain closed.
- The shops and pharmacies in Pollicino will be open on New Year’s Eve, although they will have reduced opening hours. On New Year’s Eve the shops in Pollicino will be open and the pharmacies will remain closed.
Pharmacy
CVS said many locations will be open in the new year, but you should check with local stores before visiting as some may have reduced hours or be closed.
Rite Aid stores will be open regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Eve.
Walgreens will be open during regular business hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Eve, but pharmacy hours vary by location.
Postal Service
The United States Postal Service will not deliver mail on New Year’s Day.
There is no UPS pickup or delivery service available on New Year’s Day, but Express Critical service is available. FedEx will not have regular pickups and deliveries on New Year’s Eve, but home delivery, office delivery and critical personalized services will be open. FedEx will be closed on New Year’s Day, except for Custom Critical service.

Banks
Most banks follow Federal Reserve holidays, so most teller services will be closed on New Year’s Day. As always, you can use mobile banking and ATM services.
The New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ will not trade on New Year’s Day.
