State Literary Awards / Winners announced – See who won in all categories

The state ones Literature awardsLiterary Translation and Children’s Book for 2023 (2022 editions) announced the ministry Culture.

Specifically, the Novel Award is unanimously awarded to Ismeni Karyotakisfor her work “I was not a fugitive” while the Poetry Prize was given to Stavros Zafirioufor his work “Green sky, blue grass.”

In addition, the award debut author awarded by a majority to Ari Alexandrisfor his work “How Ignatios Karathodoris lost everything” and the award Children’s Literary Book was given by a majority to Kyriako Harito for “Imagine”.

Furthermore, the committee decided by majority on the award honorary distinction in the literary magazine “Koralli».

As the Ministry of Culture points out, “the State Literary Awards, institution of prestige and substance in the space of Lettersconstitute the State’s practical recognition of the work and contribution of the authors and aim at the promotion and dissemination of Greek writing and thought and at the support of Greek book production”.

“The legislation that governs the institution of the State Literary Awards is applied to the procedure (law 3905/23-12-2010, article 40), and based on this the competent Committees were appointed (Government Gazette 447/ Y.O.D.D./12.05 .2023, Official Gazette 1129/Y.O.D.D./19.10.2023, Official Gazette 1269/Y.O.D.D/23-11-2023 and Official Gazette 58/Y.O.D.D/26.1.2024), which thoroughly examined the book production of the year 2022”.

Literature awards

The Grand Prize of Letters awarded to Rhea Galanakis for her overall contribution to Letters.

The State Novel Award is unanimously awarded to Ismeni Karyotakisfor her work “I wasn’t a fugitive”, Potamos publications.

The State Short Story-Novel Award awarded by a majority to Vangelis Hatzigiannidisfor his work “Your name”, To Rodakio publications.

The State Poetry Prize is unanimously awarded to Stavros Zafirioufor his work “Green sky, blue grass”, Nefeli publications.

The State Essay-Critic Award awarded by a majority to Christos Loukos, for his work “Hermoupolis of Syros (1821-1950). From the Liverpool of the Eastern Mediterranean to the cotton city of the Cyclades”, University Press of Crete.

The State Testimony-Biography-Chronicle-Travel Literature Award awarded by a majority to Spyros Papaioannou – Costas Vlisidis for their work The horrible temple of sin (Part I: The prostitution of the Vourlos of Drapetsona through written sources, Part B: Tracing the place and time of the “Vourlos” of Drapetsona) , published by the Institute for the Study of Local and Business History.

The State Debut Author Award awarded by a majority to Ari Alexandrisfor his work “How Ignatius Karathodoris lost everything”, Metaichmio publications.

The Special State Award for book where promotes significantly him dialogue on sensitive social issuesis unanimously awarded to Giannis Paschosfor his work “The chronicle of a dyslexic”, Perispomeni publications.

Literary translation awards

The State Award Translation of a Work of Foreign Literature into the Greek Language it is unanimously awarded in half to Myrto Kalofolias, for the translation of Anthony Doerr’s work Nefelokokygia, Pataki publications, and to Sotiris Souliotis, for the translation of Jon Fosse’s work The other name, Gutenberg publications.

The State Award Performance of a Project of Ancient Greek Writing in Modern Greek it is unanimously awarded to Pavlos Kalligas, for the translation of the work of Plato Parmenides, Stigmi publications, and to Theodoros K. Stephanopoulos, for the translation of the work of Hirondas Mimiamboi, Kichli publications.

The State Award Translation of a Greek Language Work into a Foreign Language is unanimously awarded in half to Jean-Marc Laborie, for the translation of the work of Christoforos Milionis Kalamas ki Acheron into the French language [Christoforos Milionis Kalamás et Achéron, εκδόσεις L’Harmattan]and to Riikka Pulkkinen, for translating an anthology of modern Greek poets into Finnish [Aurinkokello: Nykykreikkalaisia, εκδόσεις Enostone Kustannus].

Children’s Book Awards

The State Children’s Literary Book Award awarded by a majority to Kyriakos Haritos for the work entitled “For fantasy”, (illustration Daniela Stamatiadis), Metaichmio publications.

The State Adolescent-Youth Literary Book Award awarded by a majority to Thodoris Koukias for the work entitled “Square waves, flying jellyfish”, Kedros publications.

The State Children’s Illustrated Book Award awarded by a majority to the illustrator Chrysos Charalambous and the writer Danai Daska for the work entitled “1000 ways to squeeze a lemon”, Papadopoulos publications.

The State Children’s Knowledge Book Award awarded by a majority to Mariza Decastro for the work entitled “My own people”, (illustrated by Hara Marantidou), Kaleidoscope publications.
