Appeal for willingness to negotiate and a sense of proportion – AUA employees have provided extraordinary performance
Vienna (OTS/SK) – The SPÖ area spokeswoman for tourism Melanie Erasim explains the current debate about the collective agreement negotiations at Austrian Airlines (AUA) that the AUA and Vienna Airport are “undeniably central pillars for tourism and the economy of our country”. The recent strikes and the associated flight cancellations over the Easter holidays not only result in immediate financial damage and damage to the AUA’s image, but also have a significant impact on tourism and our country’s economy. “In this critical phase, I appeal to the AUA management to show flexibility in the negotiations and to act with a sense of proportion,” emphasizes Erasim. ****
“It is essential that both sides return to the negotiating table with the aim of a quick and fair solution,” reminds Erasim that the Republic of Austria provided more than half a billion euros to support the AUA during the Corona crisis. Erasim emphasizes that the AUA’s on-board staff invested 200 million euros in the AUA during the Corona crisis by waiving their salaries. Nevertheless, AUA employees performed exceptionally during this difficult time and contributed significantly to the airline being able to return to profitability. This commitment was also recognized internationally, as the awarding of the SKYTRAX Award “Best Airline Staff in Europe 2023” impressively proves.
Erasim appeals to everyone involved to act responsibly and goal-oriented in the interests of Austrian tourism and the many thousands of employees who depend on these negotiations. “This is the only way to find a solution that does justice to the interests of everyone involved and secures the future of the AUA as an important part of Austria’s tourism and business location,” says Erasim.
