Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Abu Hena said that a special operation will be conducted to find the landlords who have not given income tax returns. Rahmatul Munim.
He informed this information in the pre-budget discussion held at NBR on Thursday (February 22) afternoon. The E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (E-CAB) proposed to abolish the requirement to collect proof of income tax return submission of the landlord at the event. E-CAB representative Shaheen Hasan, Jahangir Alam Shovan were present on the occasion.
E-Cab says, we give notice to landlords for this. I give the letter. Only 30 percent received proof of return deposit. As a result, we have to pay 30 percent tax on our rental expenses.
In such a proposal, the NBR chairman said that the owners of houses and flats in the capital and Chittagong should be given returns. NBR will see what the income is, how much tax to pay. They have to give returns.
After listening to the proposal of e-cab representatives, the NBR chairman said, “You want the country to improve, you talk big and blame NBR for not increasing the tax net.” Again, the landlord of the city corporation claimed exemption from the return? No landlord submits a return. You complain to me about them not paying you rent even after telling you. You encourage landlords to file returns.
He also said that a landlord is presumed to have the capacity to pay the tax. Homeowners in metropolitan areas are still not giving returns. We have tried to convince them, tried to tell them. I have listed the house owners of the metropolis. We have identified the owners from Desco Meter Owners, Who Pays the Waser Bills. We will now give special drive.
He said, we have made return filing easy. Returns can be filed online. After all this there is no reason not to file return. Will give special drive soon.
