Spanish Midfielder Rodri Calls Italy a Candidate to Win the 2024 European Cup

MADRID – Spanish National Team (Timnas) midfielder, Rodri, said Italy was a candidate to win European Cup 2024 . Even though the team nicknamed Gli Azzurri has experienced ups and downs, according to him they are still a team with quality.

As is known, the European Cup will take place centrally in Germany from 14 June to 14 July 2024. Spain is in a strong group, namely Group B, along with Croatia, Italy and Albania.

Spain may be one of the favorite teams to escape from this hellish group. However, Rodri admitted that La Roja – the nickname of the Spanish National Team – was part of a very difficult group.

“This will be very difficult. We played against Croatia in the Euros and Nations League, and they were a tough opponent. Albania must also be respected. “I repeat, this will be difficult,” said Rodri, reported by Football Italia, Wednesday (5/6/2024).

Rodri is very wary of Italy. The reason is, they have bad memories of playing against Gli Azzurri in the previous edition of the European Cup.

“In the last edition of the Euros, we reached the semifinals but lost to you on penalties [Italia] who finally won the trophy. “A year ago, we took a little revenge in the Nations League by beating the Azzurri in the semifinals,” he said.

Rodri even revealed that Italy, who is his rival in Group B, is a candidate to win the 2024 European Cup despite his absence from the World Cup for the last two editions. According to him, with the presence of a new coach, Gli Azzurri is a strong team and cannot be underestimated.

“Italy has had its ups and downs over the last few years. You didn’t qualify for the World Cup twice, but you won the Euros. “Italy remains a competitive team,” he explained.

“The coach has changed, it’s true, but the characteristics are the same. Solid and competitive. This is one of those teams that doesn’t usually score many goals but still has to be respected. “I think Italy is among the candidates who will win,” continued Rodri.

Meanwhile, La Roja will warm up its engine by undergoing two test matches ahead of the 2024 European Cup. Spain will play Andorra on Thursday (6/6/2024) and face Northern Ireland on Monday (9/6/2024).
