MADRID, 12 (EUROPA PRESS)

This Thursday, the Somali Army killed at least 27 alleged members of the terrorist group Al Shabaab, linked to Al Qaeda, during an operation in the Lower Juba region, in the south of the country, which also resulted in the arrest of five alleged jihadists.

The action, carried out in collaboration with international forces such as the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), took place after the Somali Armed Forces received information about the gathering of members of Al Shabaab to prepare an attack terrorist attack against civilians, as reported by the Somali news agency SONNA.

This same week, the Somali Army has killed a “prominent” commander and fifty members of Al Shabaab in the central region of Medug, and the Somali Armed Forces have been immersed for months in a “total war” campaign against the jihadist organization, which has retreated to its strongholds in the south-central and southern parts of the country, although the number of attacks against the authorities has also increased both in the capital, Mogadishu, and in other areas.

Despite its withdrawals, Al Shabaab remains one of the most dangerous armed groups on the African continent, as demonstrated by last weekend’s attack on the headquarters of the NISA, an organization with enormous influence in the country and almost considered untouchable. .
