JAKARTA Sun has just demonstrated its power by releasing two massive solar flares in the past week. This explosion, known as a solar flare or heat wave, will have an impact on Earth, including Indonesia.

Some of these bursts are so powerful that they impact life on Earth. On May 2, the most powerful solar flare, classified as an X-flare, erupted from AR3663. This powerful explosion caused power outages throughout Australia, Japan, China and Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that the Meteorological Agency in Asian countries such as Bangladesh, Myanmar, India, China, Thailand and Laos had reported incidents of hot temperatures of more than 40°C which had been going on for several last week.

Even in Thailand, for example, the maximum recorded temperature in the White Elephant Country reached 52°C.

The Thai government reported that at least 30 people died this year due to heatstroke. On Thursday (25/4), Thailand issued a warning due to the incident.

In Indonesia, the daily maximum temperature was recorded at 37.2°C at the BMKG observation station in Ciputat last week, although in general the highest temperature recorded in several locations has been in the range of 34°C – 36°C to date.

BMKG said that heat waves can be explained through two complementary explanations, namely an explanation of the characteristics of the phenomenon and an explanation of the statistical indicators of the temperature of the event.

“In terms of the characteristics of the phenomenon, heat waves occur in areas located at mid to high latitudes, in the northern hemisphere and in the southern hemisphere,” said BMKG, quoted from its official statement, Monday (6/5/2024).

BMKG explains that the hot air phenomenon that has occurred in Indonesia recently, if reviewed in more depth with the two explanations above, is not included in the heat wave category.
