The Société Malagasy Mutualiste d’Epargne et de Crédit (SMMEC), a network of joint microfinance institutions, carries out a reforestation campaign every year. Since the launch of its activities in 2001, the company has continued to strengthen its commitment to environmental protection through this voluntary action, which is also part of the national reforestation plan. In fact, more than 600 employees, led by the Chairman of the board of directors, Gérard Andriamanga Rakotoarivelo, mobilized on Saturday for traditional reforestation. They planted around a hundred young plants, beech and mantaly, on the site covering an area of 16 ha in Andranovelona in the commune of Fihaonana. They were accompanied by the deputy head of the Ankazobe district and the chief Fokontany Fiadanana. It was also an opportunity for them to see the growth of the trees planted last year. “Reforestation is a commitment of everyone, a duty of recognition and a duty of transmission towards the homeland, a legacy for future generations. Several agencies in the capital as well as representatives from other regions came to fulfill their duty. SMMEC collaborates with the villagers who monitor the young plants,” informed the PCA. For three years, SMMEC has chosen this site in Andranovelona to carry out this reforestation duty, whereas previously, it was practiced in Bongatsara and Tsimahabeomby Imerintsiatosika. The agencies in the regions, namely Analanjirofo, Atsinanana, Alaotra Mangoro, Sofia, Boeny, Betsiboka, Vakinankaratra, Amoron’i Mania and Haute Matsiatra, each carry out reforestation on their respective sites. Reforestation helps fight global warming, which is undoubtedly the most imminent threat we face. This action carried out by SMMEC in the 14 regions is already a big step and an example to follow for all companies.

SMMEC offers classic financial services such as savings and loans adapted to all financing needs and all types of customers. For the Ankazobe district, the population benefits from financial education in terms of financing management and building up savings. People can reap many benefits, such as the ability to save money, pay taxes, and educate their children.
