The court has sent six people including five presiding officers to jail in the case of secret meeting with the chairman candidate in the upazila parishad election in Sirajganj.
On Tuesday (May 7) around 6:30 pm, Sirajganj Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Mohammad Billal Hossain rejected their bail application and ordered them to be sent to jail.
Defendant’s lawyer Shaukat Ali Salim confirmed the matter to Jago News.
He said that the police arrested six people yesterday in connection with the secret meeting of the presiding officers with a chairman candidate. They surrendered to the court today and applied for bail. The judge fixed a hearing date for Thursday (May 9) and ordered them to be sent to jail.

Before this, chairman candidate Riaz Uddin held a secret meeting with the presiding officers at Banbaria Kadai Park of Kalia Haripur Union of Sirajganj Sadar Upazila at around 9 pm on Sunday (May 5). Later, the presiding and chairman candidate could not be found after a two and a half hour raid in the park. Later, three people, including the manager of the park, were taken into police custody for preliminary questioning.
The administration found the truth of the incident based on interrogation and CCTV footage. Later in the night, district election officer Mohammad Shahidul Islam filed a case against 20 unidentified people with the names of eight people as plaintiffs at the Sadar police station.
The election commission has mourned the chairman candidate Riaz Uddin in this incident.
The five presiding officers are Assistant Professor of Jamuna Degree College and Presiding Officer of Rashidajoha Government Women’s College Polling Station Sirajul Islam, Principal of SB Railway Colony High School and Presiding Officer of Omar Ali Qaumi Women’s Madrasa Center Ashraful Islam, Lecturer of Sirajganj Police Lines School and College and SB Railway Colony. Government Primary School Center Presiding Officer Abusama, Bahuka Degree College Lecturer and Banbaria Paikpara Model School Center Presiding Officer Bachchu Kumar Ghosh and Janata Bank City SB Fazlul Haque Road Branch Senior Principal Officer and Harina Bagbati School Center Presiding Officer Yasin Arafat.
Besides, the president of Primary School Assistant Teachers Association Sirajganj district branch and assistant teacher of Sialkol Government Primary School Aminur Islam has also been sent to jail.
