Publika.az citing foreign media, scientists in Finland came to this conclusion based on the results of 45 years of research. Although the results of the study were awarded in Finland, they have not yet been evaluated by world experts.

Numerous previous studies have shown that people who exercise more live longer and healthier lives. However, this time researchers from the University of Jyvaskyla claimed otherwise. They found that physical activity may be only a small part of the bigger picture, and in some cases it can have extremely negative effects on health. More than 11,000 same-sex Finnish twins were analyzed between 1975 and 2020 to conduct research.

Participants reported the duration and intensity of their daily physical activity and were divided into four groups: sedentary, moderately active, active, and very active. The scientists concluded that those who exercised the least were about 20 percent more likely to die within 45 years than those who led a regularly active life. However, indicators of lifestyle factors such as education, body mass index (BMI), smoking and alcohol consumption decreased significantly. Compared to the active group, where higher levels of exercise had no added benefit, the sedentary group was only seven percent more likely to die early.

Studies have also shown that biological aging is accelerated in those who exercise too little or too much. Researchers believe that exercising more doesn’t make you live longer, it just leads to a healthier life overall. However, they did not recommend excessive exercise.

Anesthesiologist and reanimatologist Shahin Mammadov commented on the topic. He said that the results of 10 minutes of exercise and 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week are the same.
