Shakira congratulated through her social networks the 58 graduates of the Lomas del Peyé school, in the city of Cartagena, an educational institution that built the barranquilla with the help of her Pies Descalzos foundation.
The Colombian singer was proud of what she considered one more triumph, which added to her successful 2023, but this time from her social side. “Happy to accompany our Pies descalzos students, from early childhood to graduation. “That bright path you have started awaits you!”
Thanks to a donation of $16 billion pesos, the inauguration of this school was possible in one of the most disadvantaged areas of the capital of the Bolívar department, which offers education to approximately 1,700 local students. The financing comes from contributions from partners and followers of the artist, whose foundation has been active in promoting academic projects in the country.
The educational center is designed to provide resources and opportunities to young people in a region that faces significant challenges in terms of access to quality education.
This Barefoot School, apart from its recreational activities, operates as a community center accessible to the most vulnerable population in the sector in which it is located, offering services beyond formal education. With the support of the psychosocial department of the institution and the Social Pastoral, programs are carried out focused on drug prevention and the fight against both domestic and social violence. With these initiatives the foundation seeks to promote a safe and healthy environment within the community.
Until 2023, the artist has built with the Pies Descalzos foundation nine schools in different territories of Colombia. Several projects are under construction in: Quibdó, Chocó, in Barranquilla, Atlántico, in Tibú, Norte de Santander. Her most recent mega-work was the Nuevo Bosque Pies Descalzos District Educational Institution, located in her native Barranquilla, which she visited in person for its official opening. In total, more than 152,000 children and young people benefit from its educational projects and school infrastructure.
Can’t stop celebrating
Shakira, apart from sharing the happiness that came from seeing the results of her social projects with the new class that graduated from her school in Cartagena, which became a reality due to the aid she collects from the Pies Descalzos Foundation, the Barranquilla native also celebrated the third year of the premiere of his collaboration on the single Girl Like Me, which he recorded with the American group Black Eyed Peas.
This participation by the Colombian was an invitation from the American group and the song belongs to the eighth studio album released by Black Eyed Peas, titled Traslation.
