Senator Gatica criticizes the “petty” and “selfish” attitude of Marcela Cubillos due to the Las Condes dispute

In April the electoral pacts for the October elections are closed and the ruling party, with some setbacks, has an agreement from the PC to the DC. However, in the opposition things are still not so clear. Chile Vamos is in charge of articulating an agreement that manages to coordinate the entire opposition; However, clear definitions have not yet been reached.

The senator of National Renewal (RN), María José Gatica, in a new chapter of Al Pan Pan con Mirna Schindlersaid he believed that if Chile Vamos wants to become the Government again “we have to generate a great pact and hopefully negotiations and conversations from Democrats and Yellows to Republicans.”

In that sense, he considers that the controversy that has been unleashed by the Las Condes mayoralty dispute does not attack the real problem of the coalition. For Gatica, this controversy is due to “power struggles,” and along the same lines—he stressed— “If we want to govern again, it is not enough that we have the municipalities that are already in the sector today.”

The fact that the former minister and former member of the UDI, Marcela Cubillos, entered the competition for the mayor of Las Condes did not sit well with Senator Gatica, especially because of what was generated later: a tension between the opposition itself. “It really bothers me that many times the discussion in my sector focuses on this type of pettiness,” said legislator RN. María José Gatica’s message goes in a clear direction: “Let’s fight with the left.”

“I think that making this fuss about who gets the municipalities, that for years they belong to the sector, is petty,” Gatica accused. Then, when asked if she believes that Cubillos acts meanly, she said: “Yes, selfishly. Fully. I don’t know about Marcela herself, but I think that focusing the political fight on who she is going to be able to lead the electoral campaigns that are consolidated on the right, year after year, I don’t think it does us any good.

In The Vodcast Counter, Senator Gatica also took the opportunity to talk about the main presidential letter of her sector: the mayor of Providencia, Evelyn Matthei (UDI). Regarding the municipal elections, the senator believes that the mayor should clarify “if she is going to compete for Providencia or she is going to step aside.” This, because she could take advantage of touring the country for her campaign. “It is not good to have to stretch the gum so much (…) because that is also a symptom of selfishness that is not good for the sector,” Gatica recommended.
