Secret Service Director Resigns Over Trump Assassination Attempt

Following the shooting of former US President Donald Trump during an election rally, US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned.

The Associated Press (AP) reported Cheatle’s resignation based on an email he sent to U.S. Secret Service personnel.

“I TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY”

“I take full responsibility for the security breach. Following the events, I have made the difficult decision to resign,” Cheatle said in an email.

CALLS FOR “RESIGNATION” HAVE INCREASED IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Cheatle’s resignation came after he answered questions about the attempted assassination of former President Trump at a hearing in the House of Representatives yesterday.

Describing the assassination attempt on Trump as “the biggest operational failure the Secret Service has experienced in many years,” Cheatle said they held the necessary meetings within the service to fully clarify the incident and prevent such security lapses from occurring again.

RESIGNED

During the four-hour-long session, members of Congress from both parties questioned Cheatle, harshly criticizing him for failing to prevent the assassination attempt and calling for his “immediate resignation.” Following intense criticism, Cheatle announced his resignation today. Cheatle became the Director of the U.S. Secret Service in 2022.
