Earlier this week, the disciplinary court confirmed the suspension of two West Flemish department prosecutors.

The new magistrates exam will take place on Saturday. The previous version, taken in January 2024, was annulled after it came to light that a member of the examination committee, himself a magistrate and member of the High Council of Justice (HRJ), had provided the assignment to a candidate in advance.

Later, three other magistrates were also suspended. These are the candidate’s parents, a judge from Ypres and a department attorney in Bruges, and the Ypres department attorney JL, whose daughter took part in the same exam. It is also suspected that she was passed on the information in question.

The HRJ will not wait for the outcome of the criminal investigation before organizing a new exam. The candidate magistrates who took part in the annulled written examination will have the opportunity to take part in a new examination on Saturday. Anyone who participated in January 2024 but is unable to participate on April 20 or does not wish to participate can also choose to participate again during the next annual exam in January 2025. The written exam of January 2024 will then not count as one of the five exam opportunities. , the HRJ emphasizes.

According to the HRJ, the magistrate who committed fraud has been replaced in the examination committee, so that the committee has been recomposed as prescribed by law, with three magistrates and three non-magistrates.
