all (OTS) – The presence of FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl and the broadcast of his speeches in ORF programs is becoming more and more noticeable!
Herbert Kickl is not only a regular guest on the ORF news programs, despite his lack of content and not very telegenic appearance. As soon as you turn on the television, the unpleasant look on your face jumps out at you. “Now even the supposedly left-wing satirical show “Welcome Austria” has joined the canon and is broadcasting outrageous FPÖ propaganda by broadcasting the speeches of the FPÖ boss.”
Does that seem absurd to you? It is. Reporting on what is happening is of course the duty of a public television station. The ORF reports on a wide variety of things that are happening in Austria, be it an evening event by the right-wing extremist scene in the Vienna Hofburg or a charity event for climate activism in the Viennese cabaret theater.
In contrast to the FPÖ, the content and positions of the Science Busters are motivated by science. The position of science in the climate crisis is clear and corresponds to the demands of the Climate Council, which must be implemented urgently. The Science Busters not only bring science to the people, but also support those who bring the demands of science closer to the population, especially if they are unjustly criminalized for doing so. The fact that the FPÖ is targeting two young women, Anja Windl and Martha Krumpeck, is no coincidence and is particularly vile.
If the OTS writer had had even a modicum of the cosmopolitanism and moral courage of the two women when he was younger, he might have been spared membership in the FPÖ.
The fact that the FPÖ is clinging to any straw that allows it to attack the hated ORF contribution and thus the independence and balance of ORF reporting is hardly surprising, but it is no less scandalous.
Apart from the fact that the activities of the Freedom Parliamentary Club are also financed through “compulsory fees”.
And as far as the “People’s Chancellor” is concerned: not even the Science Busters can think of a joke. For good reasons, there is no chancellor elected by the people in Austria. Chancellors are elected by parliament. A member of parliament who has been sworn in to uphold the constitution should actually know this – and if not, he should, for reasons of decency, resign his mandate and make the place in the National Council free for someone who is familiar with this and who knows what to do with something more meaningful with the job . He could instead use his newfound free time to make up for his shortcomings in the area of the climate crisis: for example, reading the almost 4,000-page IPCC report, or more simply: the recommendations of the Citizens’ Climate Council, which actually reflects the opinion of the people.
Science Busters & Friends for Future – Benefit evening for climate activism
The last decade was the warmest in Europe since records began. And CO2 emissions are still at a record high, Austria still has no climate protection law and the 1.5 degree limit of the Paris Agreement is a long way off. Climate activism exists because it is necessary – not because it is so much fun to volunteer to camp, demonstrate, educate, dump something or stick something on something in your free time. Actually, climate activism shouldn’t have to exist. Because climate protection is a consensus and politics and society behave that way. Climate activism costs money. That’s also why this evening exists.
