SCARY PREDICTION on cancer from WHO: By 2050… – 2024-02-10 16:40:52

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that cancer will increase in the world. The number of new cancer cases is expected to increase from 20 million per year in 2022 to 35 million by 2050.

Publika.az informs that this information was published by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, which is part of the organization.

The rise in cancer incidence is noted to be uneven and disproportionately affects low-income groups.

In 2022, 20 million new cancer cases and 9.7 million deaths were recorded. However, the number of people who survived five years after diagnosis was 53.5 million. Approximately one in five people will develop cancer in their lifetime, and one in nine men and one in twelve women will die from the disease.

Experts predict that by 2050, the number of new cancer cases will increase by 77% compared to 2022 and exceed 35 million. The WHO emphasized that the increase in cancer incidence is due to aging and population growth, as well as changes in people’s exposure to risk factors. Tobacco, alcohol, obesity and air pollution are identified as the main factors in the increase of incidents.

According to the WHO, about two-thirds of new cancer cases occur in 10 types of cancer. In 2022, lung cancer was the most common cancer worldwide (2.5 million or 12.4% of all new cases). The second place was breast cancer in women (2.3 million cases, 11.6%), the third place was colorectal cancer (1.9 million, 9.6%).

Also, some of the most common types of cancer are prostate cancer (1.5 million, 7.3%), stomach cancer (970 thousand, 4.9%).

At the same time, lung cancer is the most common cause of death – 1.8 million deaths (18.7%), followed by colorectal cancer with 900 thousand (9.3%). Also causes of death: liver cancer (760 thousand, 7.8%), breast cancer (670 thousand, 6.9%) and stomach cancer (660 thousand, 6.8%).

The organization noted that in 2022, the most diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of death from cancer in women will be breast cancer, and for men, lung cancer.
