There has been another erosion of river protection dam in Dwip Union Gabura of Shyamnagar Upazila of Satkhira. The local people have become scared again.

On Thursday (April 11) evening on the day of Eid, landslides occurred in an area of about 200 feet at Baidyabari, Ghazibari and Malibari in No. 9 Sora village of Gabura Union. After that three days have passed but still no action has been taken by the Water Development Board.

Kabirul Islam of No. 9 Sora village of Gabura Union told Jago News that the mega project for the construction of a new embankment is currently underway in our union. In the meantime, embankment demolition has started in Vaidyabari, Ghazibari and Malibari areas of Kapotaksha river.

He said that no geobag has been provided to prevent erosion in that area yet. The amount of erosion in three places is about 200 feet. Erosion is increasing gradually. If this situation continues, the embankment may completely break and flood large areas. Houses, agricultural land and fish cages will all be washed away.

Prince Reza, Section Officer of Satkhira Water Development Board-1, told Jago News that the work could not be started yet due to the Eid holiday. I have informed the higher authority. After receiving the instructions, the work of repairing the damaged dam will be started soon.
