Russia attacked several electrical installations in three regions of Ukraine with missiles overnight, the Ukrainian Energy Minister said this Saturday, and four thermal power plants suffered “serious damage” in these “massive” attacks, an electrical company added.
The Russian military has stepped up its attacks on the Ukrainian power grid in recent months, causing blackouts and forcing Ukrainian authorities to ask residents to limit their energy consumption.
According to Moscow authorities, Ukraine also fired more than 60 drones against southern Russia early Saturday morning, in one of its largest night attacks with these unmanned devices.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that its anti-aircraft defenses “destroyed 66 Ukrainian drones over the territory of the Krasnodar region, and another two drones were destroyed over the Crimean peninsula.”

Ukraine bombed “key technological facilities” at two refineries in the Krasnodar region, a Ukrainian defense source told the AFP news agency.
Russian authorities reported a fire at a Slaviansk refinery and state media stated that the plant had to stop production.
Electrical and railway infrastructures
In its morning report, the Ukrainian military said that “the Russian armed forces launched another massive missile attack against Ukraine.”
“Energy infrastructure” was bombed “in the regions of Dnipropetrovsk, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv,” Energy Minister German Galushchenko declared on Facebook.
The Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions are in western Ukraine, on the border with the European Union and hundreds of kilometers from the front line.
According to the Ukrainian air force, Russia fired 34 missiles, 21 of which were shot down.
Bombings on a village near the Russian border in the northeastern region of Kharkiv have killed one person, according to Ukrainian emergency services.
The Ukrainian national police reported that one person was also killed and eight wounded in shelling in the southern region of Kherson.
Two people were injured in the center of the country, local official Oleksandr Vilkul reported on Telegram.
kyiv says Moscow is stepping up its air and ground strikes ahead of national celebrations on May 9, when Russia commemorates victory in World War II, and at a time when Ukraine awaits the arrival of crucial American weapons.
Russia has also intensified bombing of the Ukrainian railway network to “paralyze” the shipment of Western equipment, a senior official in Ukraine’s security services told AFP on Friday.
The Russian army claimed responsibility on Friday for the bombing of a train carrying Western weapons in the town of Udachne, Donetsk region.
After the bombings on Saturday, the electricity operator DTEK stated that four of its thermal plants reported “serious damage.”
The head of the western region of Lviv, Maksim Kozitski, asked residents not to use high-energy appliances between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. to preserve the power supply.
“It is difficult for the energy system to maintain the balance between production and consumption,” Kozitski said in a message on Telegram.
