Russia has confirmed a new attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Engels Airport

According to the night UAV attack on Engels air base. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that a drone (UAV) was shot down in the area of ​​​​the Engels air base (in the Saratov region), used for strategic nuclear bombers, at 1.35 in the morning (there are no data exact on the UAV model).

The operational source of the project @wargonzo reports that the air defense missile passed tangentially along the UAV, as a result of which it changed its trajectory and hit one of the service buildings of the airport, where the military was at that moment of the tour of duty, including combat pilots.

As a result of the air defense action, debris fell on the territory of the airfield, killing 3 servicemen and wounding two.
The remaining equipment of the base and the aircraft, according to the official statement, were not damaged. No evacuations or other emergency measures were announced in Engels.

In Kiev, the explosions at the Russian airport were called “the consequences of Russian aggression against Ukraine”. “If the Russians thought that the war would not hit any targets in the rear, then they were wrong,”

This attack has no operational significance for the enemy. It was in fact a provocation, the task of which is to test the waters.

According to Russian experts, Moscow is aware of this it is a test of Russia’s resolve to respond if the United States launches a disarming attack against our strategic nuclear forces. Nothing less.

The source drew attention to the fact that a component of Russia’s strategic nuclear arsenal was attacked.

The adversary wants to see whether Russia is able to seriously escalate steps in the ongoing military operation, up to conducting an air offensive operation in the entire depth of the territory of Ukraine. Otherwise, the enemy could receive a positive test to hit all the installations in Siberia even harder.

The attack on December 26th is already the second attack, in a short time, on the Engels air base of the Russian aerospace forces, one of their largest military air bases and one of the two bases of the Russian strategic aviation, which is located seven hundred kilometers from front line. The action shows that a second, relatively successful attack, in addition to the test value of Russian defenses, demonstrates that it was not just a one-off ‘sting’ of Russian air defense, but that it is important for propaganda.

Since the drone again flew hundreds of kilometers over the territory of the Russian Federation and was shot down “on arrival”, that is, already over the base itself (and “as a result of the fall of the drone wreckage, three Russian servicemen were killed) – nothing excludes that there will not be similar attacks in the future or even worse, if they are truly tests. Furthermore, if Engels is supposed to be a maximum security base but is so poorly protected, things are very bad for Russian air defense.

It is obvious that in this way the United States will be able to strike sensitive Russian (and non-Russian) targets in depth, shielding itself from Ukraine.

Apparently, the only way for Russia to stop these attacks is to escalate.
