Three dead, two of them police officers and one civilian, were left by an armed attack that occurred today Monday on the road to Samborondón, a town located in the coastal province of Guayas, in the southwest of Ecuador, reported the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

The FGE detailed that the victims were intercepted near the San Gil facility, where two vehicles were found, inside which two firearms and ammunition were found.
He added that the collection of ballistic evidence and the review of security cameras from the ECU 911 Integrated Security Service were arranged.
According to the National Police, criminal acts do not stop in Ecuador, especially in areas of the coastal region where there is a growing presence of criminal gangs linked to drug trafficking.
On April 11, five people, including a minor, were murdered in an armed attack in the Cristo del Consuelo neighborhood of the city of Guayaquil (southwest), one of the most violent in the country.
Criminal violence has rebounded after the end of the “state of exception” and curfew that were in force for 90 days in the country on April 8 to address the high levels of insecurity.
However, on April 7, the Government decreed the persistence of an “internal armed conflict” in the country and ordered the military’s participation in operations against organized armed groups classified as “terrorists.”
Ecuador has been in this situation since last January, after a wave of acts of violence, which included armed attacks, car bomb explosions and prison riots with the taking of hostages, in reaction to the Government’s security policy.
