Rumors about the failure of runway repairs were commented on at Astana Airport

In connection with the dissemination of information in the media about the failure of major repairs, the press service of the capital’s airport made a statement, Liter.kz reports.

The airport reported that this information was not true and on May 1, preparations began for a major overhaul of the runway.

To carry out asphalt concrete work, the general contractor hired the company K-Dorstroy JSC, which has experience in reconstructing airfield pavements at the airports of Astana, Aktobe, Shymkent, Kyzylorda, Taraz, Taldykorgan, Uralsk and Petropavlovsk. Today, engineering and geodetic surveys at the site continue, special equipment is being assembled, and inert materials are being supplied,” the airport’s press service said.

The airport reminded that in connection with this, flights at Astana International Airport will not be operated from 10 pm to 6 am.

The airport’s existing runway was put into operation over 20 years ago, and its major renovation was the investor’s top priority during the trust period.

Due to changes in flight schedules, passenger traffic for this period will double. Pre-flight inspection areas have also been expanded at the airport.

At the same time, it is not excluded that during pre-flight inspection there may be excess passenger traffic and a possible increase in the number of vehicles in the station parking lot. In this regard, the airport administration asks passengers to arrive at the airport earlier than 3-4 hours in order to successfully complete their flights.

At the same time, we inform you that there is free airport parking for 300 cars opposite the indoor parking. In addition, the airport authorities advise that free designated parking spaces on the first line and the services of PRM agents are available for passengers with special needs, the statement said.

The airport management has appointed staff to provide 24-hour information support to passengers on the airport premises and in the terminals.

The airport is currently reviewing its master plan for the next 30 years to determine passenger needs and capacity. These changes include the widespread use of biometric data and technology at Astana Airport, the development of a new cargo strategy and research aimed at including the airport among the top ten airports in the world in its category with the creation of a special economic zone.
