Several National Hockey League (NHL) games took place last night. In one of them, the legendary Patrick Rua made his debut with a victory as coach of the New York “Islanders”, whose team led by him beat the Dallas “Stars” 3:2 in overtime.

It has already been announced that Rouas replaced Lane Lambert as head coach of the Islanders on Saturday, under whose guidance the Islanders had collected 49 points in 45 games this season. Rua, one of the greatest goaltenders in NHL history, has returned to the position of NHL head coach: he led the Colorado Avalanche from 2013 to 2016.

In this match, Hudson Fasching and Aleksandr Romanov stood out for the “Islanders” with goals in regular time, but as the main heroes in overtime became Bo Horvath. The “Stars” were not saved from defeat by the precise shots of Jason Robertson and Neil Lundqvist.

The Detroit Red Wings ended the Tampa Bay Lightning’s five-game winning streak with a 2-1 win at home. Viktor Hedmans gave the visitors the lead early in the first period, but Lucas Raimonds equalized with a minute and a half remaining. Daniel Sprongs scored the game-winning goal in the second period after less than nine minutes of play. The hosts’ goal was defended by Alex Lyons, who saved 27 shots, while at the other end of the pitch Andrejs Vasilevskis managed 33 shots.

In another game, the Minnesota Wild defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 5–2 on the road. Kirill Kaprizov forged the Wild’s success with a hat trick, Joel Eriksson-Eck had a goal and two assists, while Jake Middleton once again sent the puck into the opposing goal. Michael Bunting and Martin Nechas hit accurate shots for Carolina.
