After the elections, there must be clear political accountability and a government with a clear political mandate. If it will be a coalition – according to the weight of the partners, with a clear coalition agreement for a four-year term. This is what the former Speaker of the Parliament Rosen Zhelyazkov (GERB) said on Thursday to BNT.
Experiments such as rotating governments and models that are the result of heavy and unfounded political compromise must no longer existhe thinks.
In his words the upcoming campaign will not just be a conflict, but a campaign of clichés.
According to him, GERB were not the ones who caused the elections and asked where some of the prominent figures of the PP-DB, such as Todor Tagarev, were the cause of conflicts in the assembly. According to Zhelyazkov, through the early elections PP-DB prevent their “free fall”.
“Their only platform was how evil GERB is. They hadn’t heard of it, Borisov was eating people. And people expect real incomes, solutions to their problems.” Zhelyazkov said.
Zhelyazkov’s decision to run lists for both the national and the European Parliament is political, and after the elections his party will decide whether he should stay in Bulgaria or go to Brussels.
“My preferences are to be in Bulgaria, but that doesn’t matter at all. If the party decides otherwise, I will comply with it.” Zhelyazkov said.
He hopes “the cycle of three years of timelessness in the political dialogue, which has become too profane and crude, to be broken in the jubilee 50th parliament”.
The constitutional changes were one of the compromises of the great majority, he added.
“When the Constitutional Court rules on the sixth amendment, we will talk about whether we will sprinkle ashes on our heads, are we going to feast on some unprecedented constitutional success. I am personally convinced that the implementation of the constitutional amendments, especially in the part of a permanent parliament and official cabinet, is extremely difficult, but inevitable. There is no other platform in the legal order to stand on.” commented Zhelyazkov.
