Retrospectively which in some cases reach 16,500 euros, approximately 45,000-50,000 pensioners are expected to see their bank accounts by the end of March with the April pension payments, and there will be a continuation. This happens because pensioners had not seen the recalculation of their pensions, both by the Katrougalou law and by the Vroutsis law.

As Labor Minister Domna Michailidou stated, “by the end of March, many pensioners will see more retroactive payments in their account, such as those of ISAP, Olympiaki, legal entities under public law and banks, who had not seen the recalculation of their pensions so by the Katrougalos law as well as by the Vroutsi law”.

It is reminded that the recalculations in the new pensions are made to those who retired with 30 years of insurance and more from 13/5/2016 until 30/9/2019, while for the older pensions they concern those who retired with more than 30 years until 12/ 5/2016. The difference is that the new pensioners get the increase resulting from the recalculation of the pension, while the old ones will get an increase if the new recalculated pension turns out to be higher than the pension obtained by the first recalculation made with the Katrougalos law.

Retroactive payments of several thousand euros have already been paid to the first group of 1,085 old ISAP pensioners with pending recalculations. On average they collected 12,900 euros, with the minimum amount at 600 euros and the maximum at 63,705 euros. The variation in retroactives is due to pensions and whether and how much personal difference retirees have that needs to be zeroed out to see the increase in pocket. Among the ISAP pensioners, few had a personal difference which they subsequently reduced to zero, while most came out as winners as their pensions after the recalculation were higher. 6,000 pensioners of the former Olympia are next in line for the recalculations and for a corresponding amount retroactively, who will also be paid at the end of March.

Retrospective payments to approximately 10,000 old retired bankers who were left out of recalculations follow in April or May. And in this group the amounts that will be paid are high and according to estimates exceed 15,000 euros and in some cases reach 50,000 euros.

It is pointed out that the most retroactive benefits will be received by pensioners who left with 35, 38 and 40 years of insurance, as in these years the replacement rates were significantly enhanced by the Vroutsis law. These recalculations are valid from October 1, 2019 onwards. That is, those expecting increases from the recalculation will get them retroactively over four years, 54 months to April (October 2019 – April 2024).
