The Minister of Health and Family Welfare requested Dr. Samant Lal Sen. Matt Channel said that he will present his proposal to his government with importance on behalf of the British High Commissioner.

Acting British High Commissioner Matt Channel paid a courtesy call on Health Minister Samant Lal Sen on Sunday (February 18) morning. Health Education Department Secretary Azizur Rahman and Director General of Health Education Department Professor Titu Mia were present along with the Health Minister.

During the meeting, the British High Commissioner praised the various development activities of Bangladesh’s health sector and said that Bangladesh has done better than many countries in the world in the corona epidemic. He also mentioned that currently there are 7 lakh Bangladeshis in UK. Many students also go on to study medicine in the UK.

Meanwhile, the British High Commissioner informed the Health Minister about his country’s interest in helping the medical field of Bangladesh. Bangladesh Health Minister Samant Lal Sen said to the British High Commissioner in this regard that Bangladesh’s relationship with the United Kingdom is very deep. Bangladesh is currently moving forward in the progress of development. The health sector of Bangladesh has also started to improve greatly. Thousands of doctors and nurses have been appointed in Bangladesh even during Corona. Bangladesh has become the fifth place in the world and the champion in South Asia in fighting Corona. Bangladesh now needs proper training for doctors and nurses.

The British High Commissioner said that doctors and nurses of both countries will exchange experience at a higher rate. He also informed about sending experienced doctors and nurses from UK to Bangladesh.

The UK and Bangladesh also talked about increasing technological support and vocational training. The British High Commissioner said that more work should be done to reduce the use of antibiotics everywhere in Bangladesh. Health Minister Samant Lal Sen assured the British High Commissioner that Bangladesh has taken multidimensional initiatives to reduce the use of antibiotics.

In the next 10 years, the British High Commissioner advised to think about whether the research in the field of medicine can be increased or not, as there may be another pandemic like Corona in the world. They also talked about increasing vaccine facilities in both countries, increasing healthcare rates, exchanging training of doctors and other health workers.

Health Education Department Secretary Azizur Rahman and Director General of Health Education Department Professor Titu Mia were also present.
