Pakistan’s Rawalpindi Division Election Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chata has resigned. However, before resigning, he admitted to rigging the results of the February 8 election. Pakistani media Dawn reported on Saturday (February 17).

In a press conference at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday, he said, he was under so much pressure that he once thought of suicide. But later he decided to present the issues before the people.

He also said that at least 13 candidates lost in Rawalpindi, but they were won by a margin of 50,000 votes. Chata claimed that the Chief Election Commissioner and the Chief Justice were involved in the vote rigging. And he demanded justice for himself and everyone involved for this work.

Commissioner said, I am taking responsibility for vote fraud in Pindi. I am also handing myself over to the police.

Earlier, there were rumors that Commissioner Chata had been arrested by the police. However, through a statement, the police denied the allegation of arresting him.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan has denied allegations of fraud in the results. In an official statement on Saturday, he said that no commissioner, district returning officer, returning officer, even the presiding officer of any department is directly involved in the election. Still, the PEC quickly announced an investigation into the allegations.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s party PTI has been protesting in various parts of Pakistan for 9 consecutive days on allegations of vote rigging and result fraud.

Internet and mobile services are suspended on Pakistan’s national election day. Then the results are declared for three days. In addition to rigging on polling day, there have been allegations of rigging, such as rigging the results.

PTI protested the rigging of the election since the day after the polls across Pakistan. Imran’s party termed the February 8 election as the ‘biggest fraud’ in Pakistan’s history. Along with political leaders and activists, common people have also been called to participate in the nationwide protests on Saturday.
