Ranveer issues deepfake alert after AI video supporting political party goes viral

Mumbai: After superstar Aamir Khan flagged off a deepfake video of himself, which was an alleged election pitch for a certain political party; Actor Ranveer Singh has become the latest victim of this menace prevalent in the industry. A video of the ‘Padmaavat’ fame actor has recently surfaced online in which he is reportedly heard expressing his political views. However, it has now been revealed that the video was created using an artificial intelligence voice clone of the actor. While the video, which is from the actor’s recent visit to Varanasi, appears to be genuine, the audio is of Ranveer’s AI-enabled voice clone.

The actor, who is married to Bollywood beauty Deepika Padukone, recently turned showstopper along with Kriti Sanon, another prominent face of the industry, at an open-air fashion show on the banks of Ganga in Varanasi. The show was organized by top fashion designer Manish Malhotra. During his visit to the ancient city, which is one of the oldest pilgrimage sites in the world, Ranveer talked about the changes in terms of public infrastructure, while also sharing his ‘divine’ experience of the city.

Ranveer posted a post on his Instagram story on Friday, in which he wrote, “Deepfake se bachao friends (Friends, beware of deepfakes).” Although the post had nothing to do with the clip that is currently circulating on social media, it was apparently in response to his deepfake video. Meanwhile, on the work front, Ranveer will be seen reprising his role of Simmba in Rohit Shetty’s police drama ‘Singham Again’, which also stars Deepika Padukone, actor Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff and Kareena Kapoor Khan. Ranveer will also be seen in Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Don 3’. ‘Don 3’ will release in 2025. While announcing the film, Farhan requested the audience to give Ranveer as much love as they had given to the previous Don installments. “In 1978, a character created by Salim-Javed and effortlessly portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan captured the imagination of theater audiences across the country.
