SEOUL Indonesian men’s doubles Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana, successfully qualified for the final of the 2024 Korea Open after defeating their ‘ex’ in the semifinals. They defeated their respective former partners, Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin.

Taking place at the Mokpo Indoor Stadium, Seoul, South Korea, Saturday (31/8/2024) afternoon WIB, Leo/Bagas fairly easy win over Fikri/Daniel. They finished the match in two straight games with a score of 21-9 and 21-14.

The victory was greeted with gratitude by Leo/Bagas. The pair who had only played two tournaments were happy because it didn’t take long for them to make it to the BWF World Tour Super 500 finals.

“Alhamdulillah, we were able to get through the semifinals. Today’s opponent was also not easy even though it was against our own friends,” said Leo in a PBSI press statement, Saturday (8/31/2024).

“Of course we are grateful and happy to be able to advance to the final for the first time. In addition, facing the next match, we must not be careless,” Leo explained.

Despite meeting their respective ex-partners, Leo/Bagas admitted that they did not feel anything strange. Both still consider Fikri/Daniel as opponents on the field even though they once duetted together.

“We played normally just like any other match. On the field, it was like meeting an enemy in a normal match,” said Bagas.

“Regarding the celebration after securing the win, it was nothing special. I was just happy to win. It was spontaneous because I won. Moreover, this is the first final,” Leo continued.

In that match, Bagas also praised Leo who showed an extraordinary performance in front of the net. However, he hopes their good game does not stop here because there is still a final match.

“We were able to win because Leo’s front game was very good. His serve was also good, making it difficult for opponents to return it. But we should not be satisfied yet because there is still the final match tomorrow,” concluded Bagas.
