Telecom company Proximus is rolling out a new ‘TV Box’. In the long term, all of the company’s 1.7 million television customers will receive such a new box, Proximus has announced.

The new box is more compact, more efficient and more energy efficient than its predecessors, the telecom company promises, and is made from recycled plastic. It must offer a “more pleasant and better user experience”, with, for example, smoother changes between applications. The box also uses 20 to 40 percent less electricity.

The new TV box will be connected to new TV customers from March 15. “But older models will also gradually be replaced by the latest model free of charge for existing customers,” the company says. The oldest models still in circulation will first be replaced. In the long term, all TV customers should receive a new box. They will be informed in advance. Anyone who wants a new TV box more quickly must pay an exchange fee.

Proximus also indicates that it is also working on improvements when watching TV. For example, anyone who starts watching a recorded program at home will soon be able to resume it elsewhere on their mobile phone or tablet.
