The Attorney General’s Office of the Republic presented, before courts against organized crime, the second package of requests to group 1,739 MS gang members into a single case, who belong to 14 cliques that operated in San Salvador, Santa Ana and San Miguel.

The public institution reported that of the 1,739 accused gang members, 637 gang members committed crimes in San Marcos, Soyapango, Apopa, Mejicanos and San Salvador. Of that total, 104 belonged to the Santomas Locos Salvatruchos clique; 34 belonged to the Alaska Criminal Locos Salvatruchos clique and 56 were members of the Delicias Buenos Criminales Locos Salvatruchos clique.

Another 180 belong to the Centro program of the City Paradise Locos Salvatruchos clique, 235 from the Centrales Locos Salvatruchos clique and 28 from the Altos Crazy Locos Salvatruchos clique.

“From the Paracentral zone, the grouping of 61 defendants from the Centrales Locos Salvatruchos clique of the La Paz Program, which operated in the San Francisco Chinameca district of the department of La Paz Oeste, was requested,” the Prosecutor’s Office indicated.

The institution detailed that, in the eastern zone, three other requests were filed against 287 gang members, of which, 85 accused are linked to the Mirada Loca clique, 197 to the Molino locos Salvatruchos clique, and another 5 gang members who belong to the clique. Ghettos Criminal Locos Salvatruchos.

«From the western zone, the grouping of 110 defendants from the Novena Locos Salvatruchos clique was requested and in the central zone it is required to group 644 gang members, 106 from the Porteños Locos Salvatruchos clique, 126 from the Kaskajeras Locos Salvatruchos clique, 94 from the Villa Madrid Locos Salvatruchos clique and 318 of the Cinco Cedros Locos Salvatruchos clique.

All gang members will be prosecuted in a single case for illicit groups; The rest of the crimes that remain open will follow due process in parallel, said the FGR.

This is the second package of accusations presented by the Prosecutor’s Office before the Organized Crime Courts. The first accusations were presented last Monday, April 29, against 5 cliques.

That Monday, the Prosecutor’s Office began with the presentation of accusations against the 230 MS cliques distributed throughout the country, on that occasion the structures operated in La Libertad, San Salvador, San Vicente, San Miguel and Santa Ana.

The attorney general of the republic, Rodolfo Delgado, explained that they will continue to present requests for the imposition of measures until the 230 cliques are completed. The accusation on April 29 was presented against 1,589 gang members belonging to five cliques, which includes the Teclas Locos Salvatruchos. in which 896 gang members will be prosecuted.

“With the presentation of these requests, the processes against each of those criminal organizations that operated at a local level begin,” said Delgado.

In the east, the accusation was filed against 416 defendants belonging to the Park View Locos Salvatruchos clique, who committed crimes in San Miguel.

Meanwhile, in San Salvador and San Vicente the accusation was filed against 210 gang members. Of which 71 are from the Down Time clique and 139 from the Cristo Escalones Locos Salvatruchos clique.

The petition was also directed against 67 defendants linked to the Pride Gangster Locos Salvatruchos clique of the Chalchuapa program, from Santa Ana.

The attorney general explained that, in this phase, they are preparing and initiating each of the processes, in which they are already presenting evidence and charges corresponding to each of the organizations or cliques that make up the MS.

Until now and after 25 months of the emergency regime, the Security authorities have put more than 80,000 gang members and collaborators behind bars.

REFORMS

In July 2023, reforms to the Law against Organized Crime were approved to increase penalties for gang leaders and to expedite criminal proceedings for criminal structure, nullifying individual procedures.

Since then, the maximum penalty was established for ringleaders: it went from 45 to 60 years in prison.

Ante, in March 2022, legislators established sentences of between 40 and 45 years in prison for the founders, organizers, bosses, leaders, financiers or ringleaders. Before the reform, the sentence for ringleaders was 6 to 9 years.
