Pride! Colombia takes two bronzes in the Gymnastics World Cup

Ángel Barajas, 17 years old and making his debut this year in the senior categoryAfter becoming junior world floor and parallel champion and absolute runner-up in 2023, he finished eighth (10.566).

But Barajas found compensation in the form of a medal in the beam final, other of his specialties, in which the Taiwanese Chia-Hung Tang (14,500) won, seconded by the British Joe Fraser (14,433). The Colombian, one of the great promises of world gymnastics, secured bronze with a score of 14.400. He flawlessly defended a risky exercise with a difficulty score of 6.6.

In men’s vault the gold went to Armenian Artur Davtyan, with 14.933. He had placed second, behind the Ukrainian Nazar Chepurnyi (14,899), but he filed a complaint and his original score of 14,833 was raised. He completed the podium with Hong Kong’s Wai Hung Shek (14,799).

The women’s victory on floor went to the Japanese Mana Okamurawith a score of 13,066, followed by the Filipino Emma Balabuyo, with 12,666, and the Spanish Laura Casabuena with 12,633.

Belgian Nina Derwael, Olympic asymmetrical champion in Tokyo 2020, took gold on the balance beam (13.633), ahead of her compatriot Erika Pintxen (13.166) and Okamura (13.133). Derwael missed the world qualifiers for the Games due to injury and is also fighting now for an individual place in the Paris event.

The next stop will be held from February 22 to 25 of the World Cup, in Cottbus (Germany)
