From the beginning of the live match, Piqué did not hesitate when referring to the level of the referee in question. “We all already know the level that this referee has,” expressed forcefully, responding to Ibai’s question about the aforementioned meeting, which he referred to as “a fireworks.”

The former Barcelona defender also highlighted a specific aspect of refereeing in the match in question: the moment in which the end of the match was blown. In his words, this is not an isolated incident.: “Yesterday is not the first time he has done it. I understand that Madrid can complain, they should have whistled much earlier, it’s not a bad whistle, it’s a late whistle. Blowing just when you’re centering doesn’t make any sense.”
These statements by Piqué come at a time when criticism of referees and their decisions is at the center of attention in Spanish football.
