A case has been filed in the court against six people, including Mayor Ghiyas Uddin Rubel Bhat of Raipur Municipality of Laxmipur, on the charge of demand for subscription.
On Sunday (April 21) at noon in the Senior Judicial Magistrate Raipur court, brave freedom fighter Manjurul Alam filed this case as the plaintiff. Taking cognizance of the application, Judge Belayet Hossain ordered the Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) to investigate.
The plaintiff’s lawyer Zakir Hossain confirmed the matter and said that the court has directed the OC of Raipur police station to investigate the case and submit a report on June 9.
Manjurul Alam is a resident of Dakshin Denayatpur area of Raipur municipality and former assistant commander of District Freedom Fighters Command Council.
The other accused in the case are Raipur Municipal Executive Assistant Mohin Uddin Bipu, employee Alam Mia, Sabuj, Mahmudunnabi and Abu Taher Sagar.
According to Ezahar sources, Manjurul Alam and former police officer Syed Ahmed have land next to Raipur Thana Mosque. There, a 9-story building is under construction jointly by demolishing the old building. At present 6 floor roof construction work is going on. The accused including Mayor Rubel Bhat demanded a contribution of Tk 10 lakh from the plaintiff from the beginning of the construction of the building. But he did not pay even a single rupee of the demanded subscription. The accused along with the mayor got angry.
On March 4, without any notice or information, the municipal people came and vandalized the building.
At the time of the incident, the plaintiff in Raipur Upazila Parishad and his partner Syed Ahmed were hospitalized with a broken leg. On hearing the news, the plaintiff came and wanted to know the reason for breaking the stairs. Then the accused again demanded 10 lakh rupees. When the accused said that the contribution would not be paid, the accused menaced the plaintiff and threatened him.
Manjurul Alam told Jago News that on the night of March 4, I left for Umrah from Raipur. On March 5, the mayor filed a case against us for arranging a fight. They also threatened to kill me for non-payment.
Raipur Municipality Mayor Gias Uddin Rubel Bhat said that building is being constructed there without following the rules. They did not provide pedestrian walkways and parks. Allegations of extortion are completely false. Manjurul Alam cannot even prove it. There is no opportunity to do injustice in the identity of a freedom fighter.
Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Yachin Farooq Majumder said, the facts of the case are not known. The court order has not come yet. The instructions will be investigated and the report will be submitted in due course.
