‘I started making slippers for Imran Khan since 2014 and so far I have sent around 44 slippers as a gift to Khan Sahib. After Imran Khan went to jail, he has now made a chappal in the name of prisoner 804.

This was said by Chacha Nooruddin, the craftsman of ‘Charsada Chapel’ located in the famous market Jahangirpura of Peshawar, who was recently awarded with the Presidential Award.

At present, his shop is known as Peshawar Chapel. Chacha Nooruddin started getting fame when he made slippers for Imran Khan named ‘Kaptan Chappal’.

The design of ‘Kaptan Chappal’ is slightly different from the popular traditional Charsada or Peshawari Chappal design. Its sole is slightly thicker and made of softer foam.

According to Chacha Nooruddin, Captain’s chappal has ‘Qeedi 804’ engraved on it, which has increased in demand among people.

However, at the same time, the question arises, is this really the prisoner number of Imran Khan?

After the jailing of former Prime Minister and founder Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, the term ‘Prisoner No. 804’ is common among Tehreek-e-Insaf activists and supporters because of their love for him.

In the market of the same number, there are shirts, caps, and other goods, while songs and poems are also coming out from the PTI workers in this regard.

Demand for captain slippers from USA and other countries

Nooruddin told Independent Urdu that he has been involved in the slippers business since 1976 and his hard work was rewarded in 2014 when he sent slippers for Imran Khan during a sit-in.

Regarding the ‘Qeedi 804’ slippers, Chacha Nooruddin said that after increasing the demand in the market, he has received orders from different countries including Saudi Arabia, America, Dubai.

“Prisoner 804 Chapal has been built now but Imran Khan is in jail and when he comes out I will send him but if he doesn’t come out then I will send him to jail.” I made slippers for Imran Khan’s wedding too.

The word ‘prisoner number 804’ was first used on Imran Khan’s personal X (formerly Twitter) account after he was admitted to Attock Jail.

A tweet was shared along with an animated video of just over two minutes in English voice-over.

In the video, Imran Khan was condemned in English for being sent to jail and was told that he is not a criminal.

Since then the same number has been trending on PTI’s political rallies and social media platforms. This gives the impression that Imran Khan’s prison number is 804.

But is his prisoner number really 804? In this regard, Independent Urdu asked Shoaib Shaheen, who is part of Imran Khan’s legal team, and he said that it is only a ‘symbolic number’.

He said, ‘I have met the superintendent of Attock Jail several times, he told that this number is not original but now it is symbolically attached to the name of Imran Khan.’

What is the process of allotment of numbers in Jail?

According to Rule 17 of Pakistan Jail Rules, every prisoner will be allotted a number between 1 to 10,000 after entering the jail, which will be registered in the jail and this number will be used for necessary action regarding the prisoner in future and Will be used in reference.

In the same clause, it was further written that under-trial prisoners would also be allotted a serial number, but this number would be changed on January 1 every year.
